C.A. Buck was a candidate in the hotly contested 1930 election for city council that pitted the forces of preservation against “progress”—opening the highway to business development—on El Camino Real. Buck was an incumbent who, in opposition to the El Camino Progress Club, objected to businesses on the highway and supported maintaining the historic groves there. This newspaper advertisement was saved in the scrapbook of his fellow councilman Allan Hunt.
