Photograph, Palm Tree at Burlingame Station, ca. 1897

This Canary Island palm tree, planted at the Burlingame train station in 1897 by Julius Kruttschnitt, the chairman of the executive committee of Southern Pacific railroad, still stands in the same spot. Standing in front of the tree in this photo are, left to right, Jessie  Murphy, son of Millbrae’s station master, and George Clifton Gates, son of Burlingame’s first stationmaster, Mr. George Gates.
