Photograph, Gunst Mansion, ca. 1930s–1940s

Gunst mansion on Burlingame Avenue is seen here in an undated photo. The city of Burlingame had purchased the property in 1940 and maintained the home as a recreation center until it was torn down in the 1960s. The estate became Washington Park, site of a diverse collection of trees, many of them historic. The carriage home for the estate still stands, and the Burlingame Historical Society operates there.
